Benefits

There are a number of benefits that come with enrolling your child in our kindergarten program.

For instance, your child will be in a class with the maximum enrollment of 15 students, which helps your child gain the one-on-one time with the teachers that is harder to accomplish in larger classrooms.

Also, our kindergarten class is taught in a bilingual environment and prepares your child academically and socially for a smooth transition to a Chinese, English or bilingual primary school. We have one lead teacher who speaks in English with the children, one Chinese teacher who only speaks in Chinese, and another teacher who uses both English and Chinese with the children. We daily use both languages in the classroom to better assist each child with understanding and speaking both languages.

Our Teachers and Classroom

Our kindergarten teachers are experienced and knowledgeable about early childhood education. They work collaboratively with one another to support each other in providing an atmosphere that is safe and engaging for all children.  They are selected because they represent the values and beliefs of Eduwings Kindergarten. The teachers provide a consistent schedule with a balance between teacher-directed and child-centered activities. Also, each teacher believes in on-going and open communication with parents. This is provided through

1) A weekly newsletter
2) Assessment and conferences twice a year and phone calls on a needed basis
3) Daily highlights of the day’s events and
4) Moments of conversation at drop-off and pick-up times.

Our kindergarten classroom consists of a variety of toys and props which the children can choose from and play with to develop their imagination or simply engage various skills, both for their enjoyment and their growth. The toys are distributed in our ‘Corners’ (art/math/ home/book), hence various different learning areas are improved even as the children play. Each ‘Corner’ helps the teachers to identify the children’s different areas of interest as well as to use the toys as teachings tools to meet the various learning styles of the children.

Our Curriculum

Our kindergarten class curriculum is targeted for 4.5 to 6 year olds and focuses on the development of the skills children should master before entering primary school. Theme teaching is a focal point in our classroom with an emphasis on developing the following areas:

  • Social Life
  • 1st and 2nd Language
  • Music
  • Mathematical Abilities
  • Artistic Creativity
  • Body Movement and Health
  • Natural Scientific Experiences

Each week we have English-based theme activities which includes 3 morning circles and 2 English Phonics classes. Furthermore, each week we have Chinese-based theme activities which includes 2 morning circles and 2 Chinese Pinyin/Math classes. We also have cooking class and the following afternoon activities: art, drama, rollerblading/Kung Fu, Physical Education and library/swimming. We also offer the children story-time, ‘corner’ playtime, outdoor playtime and climbing room time.

English curriculum specifics include:
  • Letter Recognition and Sound Recognition
  • Phonological Awareness and Phonetic Awareness emphasized
  • Handwriting
  • Correct formation and spacing
  • Learning basic sight words in text
  • Segmenting words and blending words
  • Many writing opportunities that develop writing techniques
Chinese curriculum specifics include:
  • Properly recognizing, reading and writing Chinese Pinyin
  • Recognizing and reading common Chinese characters
Math curriculum specifics (that are taught in English and Chinese) include:
  • Ones, Tens and Hundreds
  • Basic Addition and Subtraction to 10
  • Sorting, Classification and Patterns
  • Basic Geometry (recognizing, drawing and comparing shapes)
  • Basic Measurement (length, weight, volume)
  • On Location words (maps)
  • Telling Time in Hours

Our kindergarten teachers understand that children are unique, learn in a different way, and will continue their education at different types of primary school (local, bilingual or international schools). With this understanding, the teachers can ensure that the children will be prepared for whichever primary school they will attend upon completing the kindergarten program.

It is our aspiration that each child will develop a positive outlook towards school, a better appreciation of the world around them and acquire a life-long love for learning during their time spent at Eduwings Kindergarten. After all, children need their own wings to explore the world.
